neal caffrey.

he could FEEL the ferocity oozing off of him, just by one glance – the man’s expression, already a steely and harsh looking disposition, was easy enough to recognize, and with years of experience, he could discern that he was a criminal ( even if that much was confirmed, seeing as his job here was to discuss exactly that – criminality ), just like himself, but not one of the same breed. he could easily tell at this point – just by the way he carried himself, he could tell he was much more dangerous. he’d need to tread carefully.

’ you must be a pretty cautious guy, huh? ’ a euphemistic way to put it, seeing as that sword he had was obviously meant to kill. he’d expect no less from the mob, but perhaps his rare bouts of optimism and wishful thinking were seeping through. this job would be sure to go smoothly, as long as he was to remain a CONSULTANT and not a KILLER.

’ you guys have got me especially curious about all this – calling a simple guy like me all the way to italy for a job that you couldn’t even elaborate on over the phone. ’

don’t sound so surprised by it. you of all people should
know how easy it is to tap into a phone call ——– assuming
that all i’ve heard about you isn’t total bullshit.

his reputation and the manner in which it preceded him were exactly
what led squalo to make the call at all. he and the other ( or perhaps
it would be more accurate to say the sort of man that his sources had
made the other out to be ) were on the same plane, after all; though in
drastically different lines of work, neal having taken a route involving
much more finesse and far less grit, at the end of the day, the pair of
them were criminals. they operated on the opposite side of the law, so
as to fulfill their needs, obtain what was necessary to see a goal throu-
gh. by whatever means necessary. that was the general code of condu-
ct for those of their ilk, was it not

he looks the other up and down brazenly, no attempt made to conceal
the fact that he’s sizing him up —— pitting him against the reputation
he’s made for himself, comprised almost entirely of tales of grandeur.
comparing, contrasting. he looked far too ordinary to have accompli-
shed the feats the mafioso’s heard so much talk about, but perhaps th-
           at was to be expected.

look simple, look plain, and you’ll be the last to be named a suspect.

❛——– this better not end up being a waste of my goddamn time.❜

for squalo could not promise that things would end well for neal, sho-
uld their deal go sour. he says nothing else, but rather, jerks his head
to his left, the direction that they’d be heading in to reach headquarters.

           a wordless command: ‘walk’
